Most Popular Construction Cranes

A construction crane is generally a lifting machine that works with a set of pulleys and cables. For the construction industry, the construction crane is a valuable asset because it is capable of lifting heavy weight loads and different kinds of materials. The modern day construction cranes are big in size, have different lifting capacities and can reach hundreds of meters in height. For example, for the construction of a skyscraper, usually a tower crane is used that can reach heights up to 800 meters. The construction crane uses pulleys and cable system for creating a mechanical advantage which is vital for lifting heavy loads and materials. The winders, ropes, cables, and the basic level pulley system are the main parts of any construction crane. There are different construction crane models on the market, and each one is used for a specific lifting task. The most popular construction cranes are the tower cranes, vehicle mounted cranes, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, aerial cranes and other crane types.

Tower crane

This construction crane is generally used for the construction of big-sized structures, such as skyscrapers, bridges, water dams etc. The tower crane was originally developed and designed in Europe, and today it is widely used all over the world. This construction crane can reach heights up to several hundred meters,
and have lifting capacity of 20 tons. The tower cranes are mounted on the ground during the construction process. A strong concrete pads are used for holding the crane stable during the lifting operations.

Vehicle Mounted Crane

Because the cranes that are used on the construction sites are generally mounted on the ground, some projects require a construction crane that can be easily moved from one location to another. The vehicle mounted crane, as the name suggest, is a crane attached on a special vehicle for easy movements around the job site. These construction cranes are very popular because they can travel on highways and other major regional roads. Therefore, no additional equipment is needed when the crane needs to be transported from one location to another. For increased stability, this construction crane uses outriggers when lifting heavy loads.

Rough Terrain Crane

The rough terrain crane is another construction crane that is mounted on a undercarriage with rubber tires. It is designed especially to be used for off road applications and other job sites with limited access.

Crawler Crane

The crawler crane is a type of mobile crane that is mounted on a chassis with tracks instead of rubber tires. Unlike the rough terrain crane, this construction crane don't use outriggers for stability, and has lifting capacity ranging from 35 to 3500 tons. Although it is a mobile crane, the crawler crane needs to be dismantled into smaller pieces when need to be transported from one location to another.

Aerial Crane

This construction crane is also known as sky crane because it is generally a helicopter that is capable to lift and move heavy loads or construction materials. These cranes are generally used when other crane models are not suitable for work.
