Everything You Should Know About Loaders

The loaders are heavily used in the construction industry, generally for moving heavy materials and loads from one location to another. These heavy construction machines are included in various projects like leveling and planning the ground site, road construction and infrastructure, digging holes, trenches and etc. The loaders are specially designed to be capable to move different kinds of materials like wooden chips, sand, debris, rocks, stones, concrete, recycled materials and many other types of heavy loads. The history of this construction machine can be traced back to 1920's when tractors equipped with buckets for material handling were firstly manufactured. In 1953, Caterpillar managed to develop a hydraulic loader, and after the WWII this hydraulic loader became fully commercialized machine. Since then, the loader is present at every construction site capable to perform and to complete different kinds of construction tasks. Today different loader models can be found on the market with different names like: wheel loader, crawler loader, track loaders, front end loader, backhoe loader and etc. The most commonly used are described bellow.

Types of Loaders:

Wheeled Loader

The wheeled loader comes with a metal bucket attached at the front end of the machine. This type is used for lifting loose materials from the ground like sand, dirt, gravel, and to transfer these loose materials from one location to another. Generally the wheeled loaders are used for moving materials on the ground, to load and to unload them on other construction vehicles like dump trucks. Thanks to their maneuverability, these heavy machines are ideal for confined areas and locations.

 Crawler Loader

Crawler Loader

This particular loader comes with tracks instead of wheels. It combines the features of the crawler tractor and the features of the wheeled loader. The manufacturing process of the crawler loader requires more than simply placing a metal bucket in front of the crawler tractor. The crawler loader comes with hydrostatic transmission and hydraulic controls for higher efficiency. The hydraulic system increases the power of the machine, and as a result of that the crawler loader can dig much harder on the ground. The crawler loader is capable to complete various construction tasks, and because of that it is a common machine at every construction site.

Skid Steer Loader

This construction machine is described as multi functional machinery, designed to be used for different purposes. It can be found either as a crawler skid steer or as a wheeled skid steer loader. The skid steer loader can be used for completing different tasks by installing various attachments. It can be quickly converted into a snow blower, mower, loader or into a mini sized bulldozer. These machines are heavily used in landscaping.

Backhoe Loader

This machine is also known as digger or simply as a backhoe. It comes equipped with one metal bucket at the front end and a small backhoe at the rear end. Thanks to its relatively small compact size, the backhoe loader is used in many small construction projects such as construction of local and urban roads or construction of small residential houses. Furthermore, the backhoe loaders are used for breaking asphalt, paving roads, digging holes and trenches, landscaping, excavation, demolitions and many other construction tasks.

Loader Manufacturers

Today different models of loaders can be found on the market, designed and engineered by different world known manufacturers. The main loader manufacturers in the world are: Caterpillar, John Deere, New Holland, Volvo, Komatsu, Massey Ferguson, Mitsubishi and many others.
